Den högt ansedda amerikanska nättidningen Huffington Post jämförde nyligen svenska Piratpartiet med de medborgarrättskämpar som välte en massa te i vattnet i Bostons hamn 1773, och därmed lade grunden för känslorna kring en ny nation – Amerika – utan monopol och korruption, där staten och kapitalet inte skulle gå hand i hand.

But there is hope, groups like the Swedish Pirate Party in Sweden are fighting the good fight against copyright monopolists and digital monarchs. Misunderstood in America is how groups like the Swedish Pirate Party are fighting for the consumer and the artist. Both benefit if copyright laws are reformed to be less corporate friendly and more friendly to the common wealth and public domain.

In the end, I believe the copyright cartel will go the way of the British East India Company and that groups like the Swedish Pirate Party are the equivalent of American patriots back in 1773 who staged the Boston Tea Party to protest against unfair monopoly rights in America.

Svenska Piratpartiet är känt över hela världen. När jag frågar hur många som känner till partiet på mina föredrag på andra sidan planeten, så räcker två tredjedelar av publiken upp händerna. När jag därefter frågar hur många i publiken som känner till något annat svenskt politiskt parti så tar alla ner händerna och småskrattar lite överraskat.

Vi har arbetat hårt i drygt två år, och mycket hårt arbete återstår, men vi håller på att ta hem det här. Politiskt engagemang ger resultat.
